This project aims to explore processes of de/re-materialization of territorial borders within the Schengen area. It does so by focusing on three distinct borderscapes in northern Italy characterized by different border histories and practices: the border with Slovenia in Trieste, with Austria in Brenner, and with France in Ventimiglia. The project seeks to provide a transdisciplinary and innovative contribution to Critical Border Studies, addressing the need to analyse the direct effects of border infrastructures and understand how the border is negotiated, experienced, and narrated by people on the move.
