Prof. Stefano Schiavo has been appointed to serve as Director of the School of International Studies since January 2021.
He is Professor of Economics at the School of International Studies and at the Department of Economics and Management. He holds a PhD in Economics and Management from Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa (Italy, 2005).
He has been working at the University of Trento since 2008, where he has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses on International Economics, Market Analysis, and Quantitative Methods. Before, he was an economist at Observatoire Français des Conjonctures Économiques (OFCE-SciencesPo), an independent center of economic research with which he still collaborates as an affiliated researcher.
His research interests focus on international economics, with special emphasis on the behavior of firms in international markets, the role of market imperfections and financial frictions, and the application of network analysis to investigate the structure and evolution of international trade flows. His research has been published in several international scientific journals such as the European Economic Review, the Canadian Journal of Economics, Food Policy, World Development, PLOS ONE, and many others.
Tasks:
The Director of the School of International Studies represents the School both inside and outside the University. The Director oversees all teaching, research and outreach activities of the School, convenes faculty meetings, and is responsible for the functioning of the School. The Director is appointed by the Academic Senate and is chosen among the Full Professors affiliated with the School. The appointment lasts for three years.
